Pastor Burke & Caroline Montoya
A story that some day may be put in book form will take you through the events that led to Pastor Burke's salvation in Christ, but just to say it was truly a miracle of God! As you attend Way of Life Church, you will hear personal stories and real life examples that will take God's Word and relate it to your life just the way that God reached Pastor Burke twenty-five years ago when all hope was lost in his life. The passion for reaching souls for Christ and bringing people into a personal encounter with God is what characterizes he and his wife's ministry!
Burke and Caroline just celebrated 25 years in marriage and ministry in June of 2012. The church gave our pastors a beautiful anniversary celebration dinner which was a great blessing to them, as well as helping them take a wonderful Alaskan cruise. They were married in June of '87 shortly after Caroline graduated as the Valedictorian of her class at Southern Arizona Bible College. Burke attended SABC for two-and-a-half years and planned to finish his schooling right away, but a door for ministry was opened and they began their journey together as Youth Pastors of Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Phoenix, AZ, under Martin Rico Jr. It was alongside Pastor Rico's ministry for the next five years as a Youth Pastor, and then Assistant Pastor, that Burke grew in the anointing and ministry. In January of '93, he and family, which now included their two daughters, Kassi and Janae, moved to Waxahachie, TX, to finish his Bachelor's degree at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. After ministering in Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming for a short time, Burke and his family moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1997 to be the Senior Pastors of Harvest Assembly of God. It was in Saginaw that he encountered tremendous growth and experience as a Senior Pastor, along with becoming an influential person in his city. It was there, also, that they had their third child, named Lucas. Under Pastor Burke & Caroline's ministry, outreaches were developed and many lives were touched and restored by God. Burke also served on the board of Mid-Michigan Teen Challenge and was the Chairman of the Board of Health Delivery Inc., a group of highly successful health clinics throughout mid-Michigan that provided medical and dental services to migrant workers and thousands of the underserved every year. He was a personal friend and spiritual advisor to the Mayor, as well as a frequent writer and religious consultant for the Saginaw News. During this time, Caroline was able to obtain her second Bachelor's degree in Education at Saginaw Valley State University.
Under Pastor Burke's leadership the church purchased thirty acres of property in preparation for a future church campus. However, after nine years of ministry in Michigan a call came from Phoenix asking if he would consider pastoring Templo Ebenezer Assembly of God. His initial response was, "Not at this time," because of the growth and blessing he and Caroline were experiencing in Saginaw. Not until three-and-a-half months later did Pastor Burke and Caroline accept an invitation to go and preach for the church in Phoenix. It was during that visit that one word kept coming to mind, and that was "Potential!" God orchestrated their move, and since moving to Phoenix, Templo Ebenezer has gone through many changes, such as its name to Way of Life Church, but more importantly its influence upon the community. Way of Life has diligently been preparing for the last 3-4 years to break ground on a new Way of Life Center that will include a much larger sanctuary, several classrooms and offices. It has been a journey of faith but God has been faithful and the culmination of this vision is soon to be fulfilled! The word "Potential" is becoming a reality more and more every day!
